A local Hawaii broadcast ran its daily round of birthday greetings, a light and friendly segment with no hard news attached.

• Viewers who sent in birthday requests got on-air shout-outs, including a belated greeting for a woman named Jen.
• The tone was celebratory, with a nod to the idea that a birthday starts the best year of your life.
• The segment is pure community goodwill — no money, markets, or world-news angle.

Outlook: The birthday roll call runs again tomorrow with a fresh batch of names.
