About
A record kept for two girls who aren’t old enough to read it yet.
This site is for my two nieces.
They are too young to read it now. That is the point. It will be here when they are.
I don’t want them growing up believing whatever version of events arrives first and loudest. Every story is told by someone, for a reason, and the important part is usually the part nobody says out loud. I would rather they learn to ask who benefits from a story being told this way than learn to repeat it well.
That is a skill, not an opinion. It gets built the way any skill gets built — by practice, on real material, over years.
So this is a record. Every day it collects what was reported, in plain language, with the numbers left in. Not a feed that resets. Not a timeline that forgets. Something you can go back through, because you cannot see a pattern in a single day. You can only see it in a year of days.
To know the past. To read the present. To guess a little better at what comes next. That order matters — most people try to predict the future without doing the first two, which is why they are so reliably surprised by things that were entirely predictable.
What is here
Everything, Money and Power are the record — what happened, short enough to scan.
Angle is where I say what I actually think. It is kept separate on purpose: you should always be able to tell a report from an argument.
Reading is for books. A book from 1965 often explains this week better than this week’s coverage does, and every entry links straight back to the stories in the archive.
About me
I am interested in technology, in art and photography, and in how power actually moves — which is usually through energy, money, supply chains and geography rather than through speeches.
Photography taught me most of what I know about attention. What you leave outside the frame decides what the picture means. News works the same way.
I am not a newsroom. I have no reporters. What I do is read a great deal, summarize it honestly, keep all of it, and tell you plainly when I have switched from reporting to opinion.
The goal
An unbroken record they can inherit. Not audience, not traffic — those follow or they do not. The thing I can control is continuity: years of days, unbroken, kept by someone who loved them and said so when he was guessing.
It is measured one way. Days without a gap.
The point
Question the narrative. Think for yourself. Not as a slogan — as a habit, practiced daily, on the real world.
Girls: if you are reading this years from now, that is all I wanted. Not for you to agree with me. For you to be hard to fool.
