More than 10,000 gallons of wastewater spill on Lanai
A broken pipe on Lanai leaked more than 10,000 gallons of wastewater, but the spill was contained before it reached the ocean.
- The leak came from a damaged pipe along Hulopoe Beach Park Road, near the Manele Bay pump station.
- Crews stopped the spill, fixed the pipe, and disinfected the area.
- None of the wastewater reached state waters or storm drains, so beachgoers face no known risk.
Outlook: With the pipe repaired and no water contamination, the cleanup looks finished unless testing turns up a problem.
