More than 100 businesses in downtown Honolulu are still shut out of their offices a month after a basement leak knocked out power, and restaurants are taking the worst hit.

• A chiller leak in the basement wrecked critical electrical gear and forced both towers to close.
• Basic power and elevators came back over the weekend, but crews still have to test every floor's lights, plumbing, air conditioning, internet, sprinklers, and fire alarms before people can return.
• Office tenants can work from home or use temporary space across the street at Davies Pacific Center.
• The six restaurants and food stalls can't just pop up somewhere else, and their food sat spoiling in dead fridges and freezers.
• The Fort Street tower should be fully open early next week; the Bishop Street tower is targeted for September 18.

Outlook: Offices will keep running remotely into September, and the restaurants face weeks more lost sales on top of ruined inventory.
