A Taiwan court has ordered three men to pay the family of a gambling creditor they murdered, closing a brutal case that ended in a mountainside body dump.

• Yu Huang-zhi owed gambling debts to Zhou, who ran a gaming parlor, and lured him to a meeting under the pretense of negotiating.
• Yu and his nephew ambushed Zhou, strangled and stabbed him, then dumped his body in the mountains and stole his Rolex and cash.
• The uncle and nephew were sentenced to 16 and 11 years for murder; a third man, Song, got 2.5 years for helping restrain the victim.
• The Pingtung District Court now orders all three to jointly pay the widow and three others about NT$8.5 million, though the ruling can be appealed.

Outlook: The compensation order can still be appealed, so the final payout to the family is not yet settled.
