A Taichung charity handed out new-term scholarships to 160 college and high school students, easing money worries for families in hardship.

• The North Taichung Chinese Fund for Children and Families (家扶中心) held its scholarship event in Fengyuan, helping 160 students cover school costs.
• 93 of the aided students passed exams to enter university this year, moving on to the next stage of their studies.
• One female student, raised by a single father and renting on her own since high school, finished college and got into a national university's graduate program with this support.
• Another student from a single-parent home made it into NTU's electrical engineering department and now tutors over the summer to earn living money.

Outlook: The charity is calling on the public to keep donating so more struggling students can stay in school.
