Grove of Lei Trees Planted for Honolulu's Arbor Day
Honolulu marked Arbor Day with one of its biggest tree-planting events on Oahu, a feel-good community moment with no downside for anyone involved.
- Kapolei High School students and arborists planted 18 new trees, including plumeria and wiliwili, at Kapolei Regional Park.
- Nearly 50 students took part, each planting a tree tied to Hawaiian culture and lei-making traditions.
- Students also got safety presentations from the Honolulu Police Department as part of the day's program.
- The event is part of a decade-long effort to beautify the park, with organizers hoping students will see the trees grow in their own community for generations to come.
Outlook: More plantings and beautification work at the park are expected to continue as part of the ongoing decade-long effort.
