Trevor Ozawa is on track to win the Honolulu City Council District 4 seat after building a big lead in the vote count, which is good news for him and his supporters after a long campaign.

Ozawa thanked volunteers and voters, saying door-knocking and sign-waving paid off. He said his top priority on day one would be tackling a list of small, everyday problems residents raised while campaigning.

He also pledged to improve neighborhood parks and speed up the government permitting process, which he said has frustrated homeowners, residents, and businesses with long delays.

Ozawa struck a conciliatory tone toward his opponent, a first-time candidate, praising her campaign and saying he intends to represent all of the district's roughly 110,000 residents, including those who voted against him.

Outlook: Barring a reversal in remaining vote counts, Ozawa is expected to be sworn in as the new District 4 council member in January.
