Supporters of Maui Mayor Richard Bissen gathered for an election-night watch party as votes were counted in the mayoral race, with the mood upbeat but not certain.

• Hundreds of supporters turned out, with organizers expecting 600 to 700 people at the gathering.
• Bissen struck a confident but humble tone, comparing his first term to going through high school and saying he's now ready for "graduate school" — a second term.
• Polling places have closed, and official results were still coming in as the event continued.
• The outcome remains in the hands of voters, with no guarantee the race goes Bissen's way despite the celebratory atmosphere.

Outlook: Results are expected to roll in through the night, and it will soon be clear whether Bissen secures a second term as Maui's mayor.
