Maui Mayor Richard Bissen says he's pleased with the first batch of vote totals in a tight 2026 race, a neutral sign for now since the contest remains too close to call.

• Early printout numbers show a close race, which Bissen says his campaign expected going in.
• Bissen says he's happy with where the numbers stand despite the tight margin.
• His campaign leaned on sign-waving and door-to-door canvassing in the final stretch.
• Coverage will keep tracking updated counts as more results come in.

Outlook: Expect the race to stay tight as additional vote counts are released.
