A Maui high school student was arrested after video showed him attacking another boy who was trying to walk away, and police are calling it unacceptable.

• The attack happened on Baldwin High School's campus in Wailuku and was caught on video by onlookers who watched and laughed instead of stepping in.
• The victim was kicked and punched while trying to walk away, and went down after a kick to the head.
• Police say the victim never fought back and was only trying to defuse the situation, which is why they moved quickly to arrest the attacker on assault charges.
• The school district only confirmed the incident to parents after a local news outlet pressed for details three days later.
• Maui police added a second school resource officer to the campus in response.

Outlook: Expect continued scrutiny of how the school handled and disclosed the incident, along with added safety measures at the campus.
