Five survive small plane crash landing on Kauai
A tour plane crashed in a rugged, hard-to-reach area of West Kauai, but all five people on board survived.
- The pilot reported engine trouble and tried to put the plane down safely in rough brush near the Waimea River.
- All five aboard, one pilot and four passengers, got themselves out of the wreckage before rescuers arrived.
- One passenger had non life-threatening injuries and had to be hoisted out by helicopter because the crash site was so hard to reach.
- No fuel leaks or fire were found, and officials have secured the area while investigators work out what caused the engine failure.
Outlook: Federal investigators will determine the cause of the engine failure, with no immediate safety concerns reported at the site.
