Taipei Candidate Puma Shen's Campaign Website Hit by Foreign Cyberattacks

Oct 28, 2026

Taiwanese Taipei mayoral candidate Puma Shen's campaign systems were hit by two separate cyberattacks traced to foreign IP addresses, and his team says it has already locked down the damage.

  • Hackers exploited a flaw in a website upload feature to gain control of campaign servers, then created a fake admin account to plant remote-access malware; the campaign found and removed it before any official data was stolen.
  • A second attack hit a newly launched site tracking vehicle-canvassing route claims, flooding it with over 70,000 fake submissions within an hour using automated bots.
  • The campaign shut down the bot attack by requiring login to submit route claims, and it reset passwords and encryption keys and restricted site access to traffic filtered through a security service.
  • Shen says one attack tried and failed to breach the official site's admin access, while the other was aimed at disrupting the canvassing campaign.

Outlook: Shen's team says it will keep upgrading cybersecurity defenses as the election approaches, expecting continued attempts at interference from outside actors.
