Auto Weekly Visits the Maui Library
A local public library on Maui got a major makeover and now offers a lot more than books, which is good news for residents looking for free family activities.
- The Kahului Public Library reopened last year after a five-year renovation, with a brighter, more comfortable space with better seating and reliable AC and Wi-Fi.
- Free cultural classes are now offered, including coconut-frond and lauhala weaving, though spots are limited to small groups.
- A new teen-only space was added for ages 13 to 19, with dedicated computers and drawing areas, something unique among Maui's libraries.
- The library is expanding its "library of things," already lending DVDs and CDs, with gardening kits and portable DVD players coming soon for checkout.
Outlook: More lendable items and teen programming are expected to roll out at the library in the near future.
