A stranger tried to drag a young woman into his car in broad daylight, but quick-acting neighbors scared him off before he could get away.

• A man stalked two women into a parking garage near Diamond Head around noon and grabbed the younger one from behind, trying to carry her to his car.
• She fought back and screamed for help while pleading with him, and her friend shouted for help too.
• Neighbors heard the screaming, rushed outside, and yelled at the attacker to drop her and leave.
• He dropped her in the street and sped off; both women are now dealing with trauma, including nightmares.
• Neighbors are praising the community's fast response for saving her, while calling for more caution in what's normally seen as a quiet area.

Outlook: Police are presumably still searching for the attacker, and residents are expected to stay on edge and more watchful in the area.
