Local police in Hilo are getting recognition for cracking a series of thefts downtown, a small win for neighborhood safety.

• Officer Xylon Takata used surveillance footage to track down a suspect in a string of generator thefts, leading to an arrest the next morning.
• Officers Christopher Barto and Taylor Cruz were also honored for their casework over the summer months.
• The Aloha Exchange Club of East Hawaii presented the recognitions, highlighting community support for local policing.

Outlook: No further action expected beyond the recognition; the case appears closed with an arrest already made.
