Troy Fernandez Brings the Kalapana Boys' Legacy to Waikiki
Na Hoku Hanohano Award winner Troy Fernandez is reviving the Kalapana Boys name with a new lineup for shows at Blue Note Waikiki.
- Fernandez, who co-founded the Kalapana Boys in Palolo Valley in the early 1990s with the late Ernie Cruz Jr., returned home after 13 years living in California.
- He's launching a "second chapter" of the group with new, previously unknown guitar and bass players he recruited through a public call for submissions.
- The shows run Thursday through Friday at Blue Note Waikiki, with one performance Thursday evening and two on Friday.
- Tickets are available now through Blue Note's website.
Outlook: The second chapter lineup debuts this week, giving long-time fans a reunion moment and new players a shot at wider recognition.
