Taiwan foreign minister meets US Senate Armed Services chair in Warsaw
Taiwan is quietly building support in Washington and Europe at the same time, a positive sign for Taipei as it looks for backing against Chinese pressure.
- Taiwan's foreign minister Lin Chia-lung met Roger Wicker, who chairs the US Senate Armed Services Committee, on the sidelines of the Warsaw Security Forum.
- Lin passed on thanks from President Lai Ching-te for Wicker's long record of backing Taiwan, especially his recent Senate remarks during the Trump-Xi meeting.
- The trip to Poland also gave Taiwan a platform to put its case directly to European and international audiences.
- Wicker, who has flown to Taiwan on US military aircraft before, said he was glad his Senate comments got attention in Taipei.
Outlook: Taiwan will keep courting friendly lawmakers in Washington and capitals in Europe as Beijing presses its claims.
