New elementary school planned for East Kapolei
Hawaii is building a new elementary school in East Kapolei, good news for West Oahu families whose kids currently face long commutes.
- The state has fully funded a $156 million elementary school for 750 students on 12 acres in the Hoopili area.
- Kids in the area now travel 20 minutes or more to school; many will soon have a campus within walking or skateboarding distance.
- The site sits near new roads, bike lanes, and walking paths, so children can get there without being driven.
- This is only the first of several planned schools for the fast-growing community, with another middle school and a high school expected.
Outlook: Construction is set to start in March 2027, with more West Oahu school projects to follow as the area keeps growing.
