Chenggongling Camp to Open on 24 October, Displaying M1A2T Tanks and HIMARS Rocket Launchers
Taiwan's Army will open Chenggongling Camp on 24 October to display new main combat equipment and let members of the public ride in eight-wheeled armoured vehicles, in a move to strengthen all-out defence awareness.
- The camp will be open from 8am to 3pm, with free entry for members of the public holding Taiwanese nationality.
- The static display will feature 24 types of ground equipment, including the M1A2T tank, HIMARS multiple rocket launchers, Navy mobile missile launcher vehicles, and Patriot and Tien Kung air defence missiles.
- Dynamic demonstrations will include a Cobra helicopter flypast, Black Hawk fast-roping, CH-47 assault air-landing operations, drone demonstrations and precision parachute jumps.
- Visitors will be able to ride in eight-wheeled armoured vehicles and try pulling the firing lanyard of a 155mm howitzer, and there will also be a recruitment booth, a drone exhibition area and air gun shooting on site.
- With elections approaching, the military has required that no campaign clothing be worn and no campaign literature be distributed on the day, and photo identification must be presented for inspection on entry.
Outlook: The camp will not be open to general vehicle traffic on the day and traffic restrictions will be in place in the surrounding area, so visitors will need to take free shuttle buses from locations such as Chenggong Railway Station and Xinwuri Railway Station.
