The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa is staging a new production of The Wizard of Oz this month — good news for local theatergoers and families looking for something to do.

• A fresh take on the classic opens at Kennedy Theatre on the Mānoa campus.
• Jack Romans is directing the show.
• The production leans on the familiar songs and story that made the original a staple.
• University theater runs like this are typically short, with limited seating.

Outlook: The show opens this month, so tickets will likely move fast for opening weekend.
