Foreign investors pull NT$165 billion out of Taiwan stocks, with TSMC hit hardest

Oct 13, 2026

Taiwan's stock market took one of its biggest one-day hits ever as foreign money rushed out, which is bad news for chip and memory shareholders.

  • Foreign investors dumped about NT$165 billion of Taiwan shares in a single day — the third-largest sell-off on record.
  • TSMC bore the biggest cash outflow, and the main index dropped roughly 960 points, falling back below 49,000.
  • Memory and wafer names were hammered worst: Nanya, Winbond, Powerchip, GlobalWafers and AU Optronics all fell sharply on worries about chip stockpiles.
  • Big ETFs were used as cash machines too, with the popular 0050 and several new actively managed funds seeing heavy selling.
  • Local institutions pushed back, buying over NT$23 billion, and phone carriers Chunghwa Telecom and Taiwan Mobile posted strong September results on new iPhone sales.

Outlook: TSMC's quarterly briefing on October 15 is the next big test, and foreign brokers have been raising their price targets ahead of it on strong AI demand.
