Mikaela Freitas releases new single after losing her voice
A 17-year-old Hawaiʻi singer-songwriter is back performing after a vocal injury sidelined her, and her new music is out now.
- Mikaela Freitas, a senior at Kamehameha Schools Kapālama, blends pop, jazz, and rock as a singer-songwriter.
- Her latest single, "Come Here Come Back," came out in April, with the music video following in October.
- The song is about losing her voice to muscle tension dysphonia, which stopped her from singing, talking, and playing saxophone until physical therapy brought it back.
- She recorded her first single at age nine and has since won Brown Bags to Stardom and a Spotlight Dance Cup title, and worked with Kimié Miner.
- Alongside the solo work she performs with her school's glee club, jazz band, dance company, and worship team.
Outlook: She plans to perform again at the school's annual Christmas concert, with more self-written and self-choreographed music likely to follow.
