Sea Life Park Hawaii begins new chapter under Native Hawaiian stewardship
Sea Life Park in Waimanalo is now run by a Native Hawaiian organization for the first time in its 62 years, a win for local families the park wants to bring back.
- Hawaiian Council, formerly the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement, bought the park in August.
- The focus right now is steadying day-to-day operations, with animal health and the local community put first.
- The longer-term plan is to make the park feel like a local place again, with concerts and Friday night Project Grad events.
- Its first event under the new owners is Keiki Sunday, mixing early Halloween fun with Hawaiian storytelling and marine life lessons.
- Activities run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and include underwater pumpkin carving, trick-or-treating, a beach cleanup, and one free child ticket per adult.
Outlook: Expect more community events and locally focused programming as the new owners settle in.
