Man rescued after falling at Pipiwai Trail
A hiker is recovering after a head injury on Maui's Pipiwai Trail, a reminder of how hard rescues get on steep, tree-covered terrain.
- A 33-year-old hiker fell and hit his head on the trail late in the afternoon.
- Maui firefighters found him only partly conscious under thick tree cover.
- Crews carried him out on foot because the canopy blocked a helicopter pickup.
- An air ambulance then flew him to Maui Memorial Medical Center.
Outlook: He is expected to recover, and the trail remains open with no change to conditions reported.
