Latvian National Day Reception: Lawmaker Hopes to Deepen Taiwan-Latvia Ties
Relations between Taiwan and Latvia continue to warm, a positive signal for cooperation between the two countries within the democratic camp.
- The Taipei Mission in the Republic of Latvia held a National Day reception in the capital, Riga, attended by representatives from Latvian political, diplomatic, academic, media and business circles.
- Judins, chair of the Latvian parliament's Taiwan friendship group, said the Taiwan-Latvia partnership is important and expressed hope for deeper friendly ties and expanded practical cooperation.
- Representative to Latvia Chen Wen-yi noted that although the two countries are far apart, they equally cherish freedom and likewise face threats from a powerful neighbour.
- Several chairs and deputy chairs of Latvian parliamentary committees attended, as did representatives from the foreign affairs, health, defence, economics and finance ministries.
- The event featured an exchange with a delegation of Taiwanese medical professionals, a performance by a Latvian children's dance troupe, and a screening of a documentary on Taiwan's semiconductor industry.
Outlook: The two sides are expected to advance further cooperation in areas such as information and communications technology, artificial intelligence, and technological innovation.
