Maui and Molokai Humane Society partner on pet health services
Pets on Molokai are getting better access to basic veterinary care, good news for owners and stray animals on an island with few options.
- Nearly 200 animals on Molokai were microchipped and vaccinated in a single day through a partnership between the Maui and Molokai humane societies.
- The chips make it far easier to reunite lost pets with their owners.
- Six stray dogs are being flown from Molokai to Maui for longer-term care and rehab.
- Once the medical team clears them, those dogs go up for adoption.
- Maui Humane Society is also running an adoption promotion this week, cutting fees on adult dogs.
Outlook: More of these island-to-island clinics are likely as the two shelters build out the partnership.
