AMD's Lisa Su visits Taiwan suppliers, then heads to South Korea for AI chip talks

Oct 05, 2026

AMD chief Lisa Su is racing through Asia to lock down AI chip supply, and Taiwan's market is celebrating with a record-breaking rally.

  • Su landed in Taiwan for closed-door meetings with TSMC, Quanta, Wistron, Inventec and Pegatron to check delivery schedules into next year, covering liquid cooling, rack assembly and testing.
  • She flies to South Korea next to talk AI chips and high-bandwidth memory with the big memory and foundry players there.
  • AMD just paid $8.2 billion for World Labs, the startup founded by AI pioneer Fei-Fei Li, pushing into 3D spatial computing to strengthen its software side.
  • Taiwan's market jumped over 1,200 points to close near 49,700, a record, with TSMC hitting an all-time high after weak US jobs data lifted Wall Street and Asia.
  • Copper-clad laminate and ABF substrate makers surged, while UMC fell over 4% despite its AI and silicon photonics push.

Outlook: Bank of America now sees the AI data center market reaching $2.2 trillion by 2030, keeping Nvidia, TSMC and Micron in favor — but the speed of this rally leaves Taiwan's high-priced chip names exposed if AI spending cools.
