Pearl City crowns new Ms. Plaza in senior celebration
A Pearl City senior community crowned a new Ms. Plaza, a feel-good local moment for residents and their families.
- May Imamura-Unuu, 86, a retired teacher and mother of five, won the title.
- Seven residents took the stage and talked about themselves for a panel of judges.
- Judges scored on personality and poise rather than looks.
- Beatrice Shiroma, 104, took the interview award, and Carol Murakami, 82, was also honored.
- The new winner said it was her first time wearing a tiara and that she flew in family to watch.
Outlook: The contest looks set to stay an annual highlight for the Pearl City senior community.
