A man died in a single-vehicle crash on the Big Island, the latest in a rising traffic death toll for Hawaii County.

• A pickup driver lost control on North Kulani Road near Stainback Highway late at night, hit a tree and flipped the truck.
• The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and was not wearing a seat belt.
• Police think speed, alcohol and drugs all played a part.
• It is the 26th traffic death on the Big Island this year.

Outlook: Police are still investigating, and the climbing death count is likely to bring more pressure for enforcement on rural Big Island roads.
