Hawaii hunters get their shot at the 2027 Lanai axis deer season, with applications opening Monday — good news for anyone hoping to draw a tag.

• Applications for the 2027 Lanai axis deer hunt open Monday.
• The season is split into four groups: archery, youth, muzzleloader, and general rifle.
• All four groups are filled by lottery, so a tag is not guaranteed.
• Standby spots may open up depending on how many people apply.

Outlook: Hunters who want a tag need to apply once the window opens, with lottery results deciding who gets in.
