14th Annual Walk and Roll to cure ALS
Hundreds of people turned out in Honolulu to raise money for families living with ALS, a hopeful show of support for a community facing a disease with no cure.
- The 14th annual Walk and Roll to Cure ALS drew hundreds to Kapiolani Park.
- ALS, also called Lou Gehrig's disease, attacks the nervous system and takes away the ability to walk, talk, swallow, and breathe.
- Care can cost a family up to $250,000 a year, so money raised goes toward free services, medical equipment, and support groups.
- More than 35,000 people across the country have ALS, including more than 100 families being helped in Hawaii.
Outlook: Funds raised will keep covering care costs for Hawaii families while researchers still search for a cure.
