Hawaiian Airlines changes for neighbor island and international flights
Travelers flying between Honolulu and Maui face new bag deadlines and a terminal switch, which is mildly annoying for passengers but a sign of bigger planes on the route.
- Alaska Airlines is adding three daily 737-800 flights between Honolulu and Kahului, replacing Hawaiian's smaller 717s.
- Bigger planes mean more passengers and more bags, so bag drop-off now closes 50 minutes before departure instead of 30.
- The extra time is needed because every checked bag has to clear TSA screening behind the scenes.
- Hawaiian's international check-in is moving from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2, Lobby 4.
Outlook: Passengers should plan to arrive earlier and double-check their terminal, as Alaska keeps folding Hawaiian's operation into its own.
