Huang Kuo-chang Visits Kinmen to Back Chen Yu-jen, Declaring Blue-White Cooperation

Oct 02, 2026

The Taiwan People's Party and the Kuomintang have publicly moved closer together ahead of the year-end elections — a positive signal for both parties' supporters, and a source of pressure for the Democratic Progressive Party.

  • TPP Chairman Huang Kuo-chang travelled to Kinmen to meet Chen Yu-jen, the KMT's candidate for Kinmen County magistrate, publicly voicing his support for her and saying that blue-white cooperation is "beyond doubt."
  • Chen Yu-jen hosted him with the Kinmen snack *xian guo zha* (fried salty rice cake), noting that the two were classmates in the same year at National Taiwan University, and thanked the TPP for helping advance amendments to the Act Governing the Allocation of Government Revenues and Expenditures, under which Kinmen stands to gain at least NT$5 billion more in fixed annual revenue in the future.
  • With just 57 days until the 2026 local elections, Chiang Chi-chen, the KMT's candidate for mayor of Taichung, released his first campaign video the same day, using AI to animate old photographs.
  • Universal cash handouts have also become a battleground: KMT caucus whip Fu Kun-chi called for the amount to be raised to NT$20,000, while Premier Cho Jung-tai opposed the idea, arguing the money should go towards long-term planning.
  • Several other political and public-interest stories are developing in parallel, including a school-lunch food safety crisis in Taipei that has sent more than a hundred students to hospital with diarrhoea, the arrival of the first two F-16 Block 70 fighter jets at Chihhang Air Base in Taitung, and former President Tsai Ing-wen's trip to the United States in October to attend a Stanford University symposium.

Outlook: Blue-white cooperation in the local races looks set to expand further, while the size of the cash handout and the confrontation between the executive and the legislature are the most likely flashpoints ahead.
