Firefighters contain fire at ABC Junkyard in Pearl City
A junkyard fire in Pearl City sent thick black smoke over Honolulu for hours, but nobody was hurt and crews have it almost fully under control.
- Honolulu firefighters were called to the ABC junkyard on Lehua Avenue in the middle of the afternoon.
- It took crews about 40 minutes to get water on the flames because the fire sat down a private dirt road.
- Dark smoke was visible from the freeway and across Waipahu, but the fire is now nearly 100% contained.
- No injuries and no road closures have been reported.
- The cause is still being investigated.
Outlook: Crews are expected to finish mopping up on scene, with the cause to be determined later.
