Famed 90-foot Holei Sea Arch collapses on Hawaii Island
One of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park's most photographed landmarks is gone, a loss for visitors and for the Big Island's coastline.
- The Holei Sea Arch collapsed on Sunday, the park confirmed.
- It stood 90 feet high at the end of Chain of Craters Road and was 550 years old.
- Big surf in 2022 knocked rocks away from the base of the arch's leg, leaving it weak.
- Photos taken a day apart show the arch standing, then gone.
Outlook: The viewing area will likely stay a stop for tourists, but the arch itself will not be rebuilt.
