Hawaiʻi residents with an unused vehicle can turn it into local health funding, and get a tax break in return.

• The National Kidney Foundation of Hawaiʻi accepts donated cars, trucks, and SUVs through its Kidney Cars program.
• Towing is free anywhere on Oʻahu, even if the vehicle does not run or has expired registration and safety checks.
• Donors get a tax deduction of at least $500.
• Unlike mainland donation programs, the money stays in the islands and pays for kidney screenings, diabetes prevention, and patient care.

Outlook: The program runs year-round, so anyone clearing out a driveway can arrange a pickup at any time.
