Taiwan's opposition is pushing to double a planned cash handout to every citizen, and the government is pushing back over who pays for it.

• The KMT's legislative caucus wants NT$20,000 handed to each person as the top priority bill of the new session.
• That is twice the NT$10,000 handout President Lai Ching-te announced for next year in August.
• Premier Cho Jung-tai rejected borrowing for it, saying this generation's debt must not be left to the next one.
