Elon Musk's push to make humans a multi-planet species is being taken seriously, which is a positive sign for SpaceX backers and anyone betting on his track record.

• Musk's stated goal is to put people on Mars and make humanity multi-planetary.
• His defenders point to a pattern: what he says he will do, he eventually does.
• The examples cited are the Twitter takeover and building electric cars into a real business.
• The Mars plan is framed as already in motion rather than as a distant idea.

Outlook: Expect continued confidence in Musk's space ambitions, with SpaceX's progress treated as the test of whether the Mars goal is credible.
