Wounded Warrior Ohana paddle out connects veterans and Gold Star families in Waikiki
Wounded veterans and Gold Star families gathered in Waikiki for a therapeutic outrigger canoe paddle, a positive community event for service members recovering from injuries and PTSD.
- The Wounded Warrior Ohana and Elks Lodge 616 held their fourth annual MG Frank Tate Memorial Paddle and Lunch.
- Around 100 wounded servicemen, women, and their families were invited to paddle outrigger canoes in calm conditions.
- Veterans dealing with wounds or PTSD from their service come back from the water uplifted and smiling.
- Gold Star family members use the gathering to honor and say the names of loved ones lost in service.
- The paddle out is named after a former Wounded Warrior Ohana board member who died in 2022.
Outlook: The event is expected to remain an annual fixture as the organization keeps supporting wounded service members and their families.
