Why stop losses placed just under support get hit
Putting a stop loss right below an obvious support level is a losing habit for new traders, and it is bad news for anyone still doing it.
- Under every obvious price floor sits a pile of stop losses from retail traders.
- New traders learn support and resistance first, then park their stop a dollar below support.
- Larger players on the other side of those orders know exactly where the stops cluster and can push price through them.
- The result is the trader gets stopped out right before price bounces back.
Outlook: Traders who keep stops at the most obvious spots under support will keep getting hunted; placing them less predictably is the fix.
