LG smart TVs have been caught recording what people say even when the set looks off, which is bad news for anyone who owns one and a growing headache for LG.

• An investigation by Gamers Nexus found the LG G5 TV keeps its microphone on and stores recordings while the screen is off.
• The TV keeps recording even with the network cable unplugged, so it does not need an internet connection to listen.
• Once the TV reconnects to the internet, anyone with remote access can pull those saved recordings off the set through security holes.
• The FULU Foundation, a right-to-repair group led by Kevin O'Reilly, contributed research to the investigation.
