Anduril founder Palmer Luckey urges Taiwan to fight China asymmetrically, like the American Revolution

Sep 19, 2026

Anduril founder Palmer Luckey told a Taipei defense forum that Taiwan can beat a Chinese invasion by "cheating" with asymmetric tactics — a mostly upbeat message for Taiwan, and a signal that US defense-tech firms are tying themselves more tightly to the island.

  • China has one main military goal, taking Taiwan, and it is well prepared for it ahead of 2027, while the US has to juggle wars around the world.
  • Taiwan's edge is home-field advantage: it does not need to invade China, only make an invasion painfully costly, the way Afghan fighters bogged down a far stronger US military.
  • With China spending 8 to 10 times more on defense, Taiwan should copy the American Revolution — shoot from the trees instead of lining up for a fair fight.
  • Anduril uses Taiwan-made chips and sensors and works with nearly 100 Taiwanese suppliers, and the more US firms do this, the more Washington will see losing Taiwan as unacceptable.
  • China pushing hopelessness on social media is a sign it does not expect an easy win, so the fight is far from lost.

Outlook: Luckey, sanctioned by Beijing alongside forum moderator Lin Fei-fan, expects US-Taiwan ties to stay strong and deepen, since America's biggest industries and tech depend on Taiwan.
