Taiwan has become the biggest import partner for five American states, a sign of how deeply US supply chains now lean on Taiwanese goods.

• Canada is the top import source for 23 states, Mexico for 9, Taiwan for 5 and China for just 4.
• Nevada leans on Taiwan the most, with almost half its imports coming from there, followed by New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and Kentucky.
• Montana is the most dependent state of all, taking over 90% of its imports from Canada, which leaves it badly exposed to tariffs or trade fights.
• New Jersey is the opposite case: India leads there but supplies under a tenth of its imports, so the state is well spread out.
• A few states break the pattern entirely — Indiana buys most from Ireland, Nebraska from Thailand and Idaho from Malaysia.

Outlook: With tariffs and trade disputes still in play, states tied to one country — especially Taiwan-heavy chip states and Canada-heavy border states — face the most risk from any new trade shock.
