Maui police have named the woman killed while crossing a street in Kahului, a reminder of the risks pedestrians face on the island's main roads at night.

• A 61-year-old woman from Wailuku, Lynette Kealoha, was hit by a car while crossing Kaahumanu Avenue near South Papa Avenue.
• The crash happened Wednesday night, and she died at the scene.
• The driver, a 70-year-old man from Wailuku, was not hurt.
• This is Maui County's eighth traffic death this year, down from 12 at the same point last year.
