Mid-Pacific unveils new $7.5M track and field facility

Sep 13, 2026

Mid-Pacific Institute has opened a new multimillion-dollar track and field complex on its Honolulu campus, a clear win for the school's athletes and families.

  • The new facility replaces the old athletic field and includes a six-lane track, space for field events, and a natural grass field.
  • The grass field will host flag football, soccer, school events, and graduation ceremonies.
  • Teams no longer have to bus to another site to practice, saving up to two hours a day.
  • The project was paid for by donations, including a $1.5 million gift from the late Mike Wood, a former Cal track athlete, and his wife Joanne.
  • The opening comes as the school's girls' track and field team celebrates a state championship.

Outlook: The campus spring was also restored as part of the work, and more donor commitments are coming in.
