KMT Chairwoman Cheng Li-wun and the DPP camp have traded accusations of "taking Chinese money" and "taking American money" over the Taipei mayoral race, bringing the blue-green fight over who is pro-China and who is pro-America to a boil ahead of schedule.

• At the inaugural meeting of a support group for Chiang Wan-an, Cheng Li-wun called Puma Shen a "Red Boy," saying he is anti-China in public while his family does business and makes money in China, and that he also takes Americans' money, playing both sides.
• Yeh Yao-yuan, chair professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of St. Thomas in the United States, hit back, questioning how the KMT can normally go around encouraging Taiwanese businesspeople to invest in China and now turn around and attack an opponent over a Taiwanese business background.
• Yeh said the party with the least standing to criticize anyone for taking American money is the KMT, given how many American resources the two Chiangs took during the authoritarian era.
• He also took aim at the "General Association of Provincial and Municipal Fellow Townsmen of the Republic of China" in the event's name, saying that anyone who does not want to be Taiwanese need not be Taiwanese.

Outlook: With the Taipei mayoral race heating up, the war of words — blue and green pinning red hats on each other and competing over who is more pro-America — will only grow more intense in the near term.
