Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te attended the funeral of Powerchip founder Huang Chung-jen in person and conferred a commendation order, underscoring the national-level standing of the semiconductor industry in Taiwan.

• Huang died in late July, and his funeral was held in Taipei on the 12th, where Lai Ching-te presented the commendation order on behalf of the nation.
• He left medicine for business at the age of 38, founding Powerchip Semiconductor in 1994 in partnership with Japan's Mitsubishi Electric, and has been called one of the pioneers of Taiwan's semiconductor industry.
• Having weathered the financial crisis, the collapse in DRAM prices and the company's delisting, he paid off NT$120 billion in debt within eight years and transformed the company into a logic IC foundry.
• He was a long-time advocate of semiconductor education, helping bring about the establishment of the College of Semiconductor Research to cultivate talent for the industry.

Outlook: Official interest in the semiconductor industry in Taiwan shows no sign of cooling, and talent cultivation and industrial transformation will remain key priorities going forward.
