With the Taipei mayoral race entering its final stage, Chiang Wan-an and Democratic Progressive Party candidate Shen Po-yang have been exchanging fire from a distance, each accusing the other of pinning labels on people to stir up division.

• Supporters have dubbed the crowds at Shen Po-yang's street canvassing the "Yang current" (洋流). Chiang Wan-an responded that he "only felt plenty of New Tide," a remark read as an allusion to the DPP faction.
• Shen Po-yang hit back, saying that pinning labels on residents who raise problems with city governance is manufacturing division, and is not merely a joke.
• Chiang Wan-an fired back again, saying that Shen Po-yang's past description of the Twin City Forum as a "breach" and as infiltration was the real label-pinning.
• Chiang Wan-an was also pressed on his son going to the United States as an exchange student. The Taipei Department of Education has received an official letter from the Control Yuan, though the body currently has neither a president nor any members.
• Asked about the investigation, Chiang Wan-an would say only that "a gentleman is open and at ease, while a petty man is forever anxious."

Outlook: With election day approaching, the war of words and the exchange-student controversy are both expected to keep flaring up.
