Honolulu police mark 9/11 anniversary
Honolulu's police department held a remembrance for the lives lost on September 11, a somber but unifying moment for the city.
- A youth runner presented Police Chief David Lazar with the Freedom Flag and a piece of steel from the World Trade Center.
- The handover came out of a Running for Heroes event held the day before.
- The Freedom Flag was created after the attacks as a national symbol of remembrance.
- The World Trade Center steel will go on public display.
Outlook: The steel piece stays in Honolulu as a permanent reminder, with similar ceremonies expected each year.
